Project Launch: Standing Strong with Women and Human Rights Defenders in Nepal’s Terai
After months of thoughtful preparation, dialogue, and coordination, we proudly announce the launch of our new 15-month initiative: “Support to Local Women/Human Rights Defenders and Minority Groups in Terai.” The project officially commenced on March 28, 2025, following the signing of the Project Agreement with Nepal’s Social Welfare Council (SWC).
This milestone reflects a shared commitment to advancing human rights and social justice. We sincerely appreciate the Social Welfare Council and the Government of Nepal for their support, trust, and constructive engagement throughout the approval process.
Implemented in partnership with Advocacy Forum (AF), Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP), and Madhesh Human Rights Home (MAHURI-Home), the project will operate across 11 districts: Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Parsa, Kathmandu, Banke, Dang, Kapilvastu, Surkhet, Kailali, and Kanchanpur.
At its core, this initiative seeks to strengthen community-based protection strategies, enhance the capacity of local actors, and foster inclusive networks for women and human rights defenders, particularly those from marginalized and minority communities. We aim to contribute to a more just, safe, and equitable society in the Terai and beyond.
The journey to this point has involved critical reflection, alignment, and partnership-building—an encouraging reminder of what becomes possible through dialogue and mutual respect.
We are excited to embark on this new chapter. Stay tuned for updates, stories from the ground, and opportunities to engage in solidarity with those defending rights where it matters most.
